In the halls of the dome, Eve, Kale, and Chronos wandered around trying to find a place to sleep for the night. Chronos gave out a yawn as he walked and stated, “I didn’t expect it to be so hard to find a place to sleep.”
“Well we need to find a place that is close to an exit, but has other people.”
“Not many people want to sleep near exits since they fear an invasion and don’t want to be the first victims.”
They all noticed this problem and so they were having problems finding a place to sleep. Eve suddenly noticed Tanpopo waltzing down the hall and called out to her.
Tanpopo’s expression seemed to light up at the sight of Eve and immediately ran toward her with arms wide open.
“Eve!” cheered Tanpopo, practically leaping into Eve’s arms. Eve caught her with no problem as Tanpopo began to nuzzle against her cheek.
“Tanpopo, I need to ask you something.”
“Ask way,” chirped Tanpopo.
“Do you know a place where there are people and it is close to an exit, where Kale, Chornos, and I can sleep?”
Tanpopo pondered to herself and then snapped her fingers leaping out of Eve’s embrace.
“There’s an office near my room that has a fire escape right outside its window, so that should do and you will also be near me,” stated Tanpopo in a cheerful tone. Eve and the others looked to one another and then gave a nod deciding that was the best place to sleep for the night.
Tanpopo insisted on leading the way as she skipped in front of them cheerfully.
“You sure seem excited, Tanpopo,” stated Kale as he stared at the small girl. Tanpopo nodded and stated, “Starting today, I will have another User here and she’s a girl just like me, so we can be together for a long time.” Eve sighed realizing that Tanpopo was speaking of her, but she wondered if Tanpopo was truly aware that her companions and her only planned to stay for the week to replenish their energy and supplies for the unknown road ahead.
They soon reached the familiar door of Tanpopo’s room, but Tanpopo opened the door next to it and stated, “Here’s the office. There should be some blankets in there, so make yourselves comfortable.” Eve and the others nodded and walked in. Tanpopo wished them a good night and then closed the door.
Kale examined the room and then glanced at the window, which indeed did have a fire escape. Kale nodded in approval and stated, “Tanpopo is close and this room is close to an exit, so it should be OK to sleep here.” Eve and Chronos nodded.
Kale opened the window allowing some cool air in and then began to lay down the blankets for Eve, Chronos, and himself. Chronos examined some files on an abandoned desk making sure not to even glance at Eve and Kale, while Eve headed to the opened window. She glanced at the earth wall that towered over the town and stated, “It seems really safe here.”
Kale sighed saying, “I wouldn’t call it safe since there are crazy Users here.”
“I guess so,” stated Eve. She glanced up at the full moon with a forlorn look.
“I wonder if the other Users are safe.”
“You mean the ones we haven’t met yet?”
Eve nodded and then sat in front of the window not tearing her eyes from the moon.
“I never spoke with them, ever since I was confined in my room when my powers first activated and now that this apocalypse has happened, I wish I got to know them, so maybe we could have worked together.”
Kale shook his head saying, “I don’t think that could have made a difference.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Think about it: Chronos knew a few Users and just those few don’t work together with him and his User companions even became zombies.”
Chronos nodded adding, “Just knowing others doesn’t make them work together.” Eve nodded and then glanced at Kale and Chronos.
“I still want those Users I have yet to meet to be safe.”
Kale smiled and nodded, while Chronos seemed to have mixed feelings.
Kale grabbed Eve’s hand leading her to the blanket covered floor. He laid her down and then covered her with a blanket.
“You might feel pain later because of THAT, so I made sure to give you extra blankets to be comfortable and I laid a towel as well, so you won’t stain anything.”
Eve blushed and thanked Kale before turning and closing her eyes. When Kale heard the soft breathing of Eve, Kale then looked at Chronos and stated, “You should rest too.”
Chronos nodded and positioned himself on the blanket next to Eve, but then he lifted his head in Kale’s direction with his eyes still shut.
“Remember what I said when we were in the tank when I looked at you?”
Kale nodded with a frown.
“I’m sorry to ask, but can you tell me why you didn’t save those kids in May?”
“…Why do you want to know?”
“It bothered me. When I saw your past, it seemed like you wanted to go back to save them, but you just continued to run without looking back. Why?”
Kale sighed crossing his legs.
“If you were in my position, could you to go back knowing that you will die?”
Chronos frowned and muttered, “So there was something I didn’t see in your past.” Kale nodded and then turned away saying, “It is better that you don’t know.”
Chronos could tell that Kale didn’t want to speak of the event anymore and just curled up in his own blanket next to Eve.
They were soon in a deep slumber and unknown to any of them, a metal bottle was tossed into the room. The metal bottle shook and then expelled a gas. Eve, Chronos, and Kale fell into a deeper sleep.
A figure suddenly swung into the room and then walked casually toward Eve. When then light of the moon seemed to shift, the figure was revealed to be none other than Exodia. Exodia licked her lips kneeling next to Eve.
“Time to go my dear.”
Exodia lifted Eve up and then leapt out the window leaving Chronos and Kale behind in their slumber. Exodia glanced at the fire escape stairs making it crumble like paper and then crash down into the ground. Exodia smirked as she guided her leaping steps with the metal around the dome.
I always get what I want.
